The Job

The Food Safety Coordinator supports the daily execution of Little Sesame’s food safety and quality programs. This role requires someone who can work independently, conduct inspections, verify records, identify and follow up on deficiencies, and prepare clear food safety documents with minimal supervision.

The Coordinator will play a key role in early-morning food safety activities, including daily pre-operational inspections before production begins.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and verify that production areas and equipment are clean and ready for use.
    • Perform GMP, sanitation, facility, food safety, and quality inspections.
    • Review and verify food safety, sanitation, production, temperature, and other FSQA records.
    • Identify incomplete or inaccurate records and follow up on corrections.
    • Document deficiencies and verify that corrective actions are completed.

    • Draft and update SOPs, work instructions, forms, checklists, and other FSQA documents.

    • Support internal audits, traceability exercises, mock recalls, and food safety program verification.

    • Assist with food safety training and reinforce GMP and food safety expectations on the production floor.

    • Monitor recurring issues and communicate trends or significant concerns to the Quality Assurance Manager.

    • Work directly with Production, Sanitation, and Operations teams to resolve routine food safety issues.

    Authority & Independence

    The Food Safety Coordinator is expected to independently manage routine FSQA activities and exercise sound judgment.

    The Coordinator may:

    • Require correction of sanitation, GMP, or documentation deficiencies.

    • Request recleaning or reinspection when conditions are unacceptable.

    • Escalate significant food safety concerns to management.

    • Recommend product, equipment, or area holds in accordance with established procedures.

    Qualifications

    • Previous experience in food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, or food manufacturing.

    • Working knowledge of GMPs and basic food safety principles.

    • Ability to conduct inspections and review records independently.

    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

    • Ability to write clear procedures and work instructions.

    • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with production employees and supervisors.

    • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

    • Basic computer skills, including spreadsheets and document preparation.

    Preferred:

    • HACCP, PCQI, SQF, ServSafe, or similar food safety training.

    • Experience in a GFSI-certified food manufacturing environment.

    • Spanish-language proficiency.

    Schedule Expectations

    The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential because the role is responsible for completing pre-operational food safety checks before production begins.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Base Salary: $70,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience
