Little Sesame began as a pop-up in a 500 sq ft basement in Washington D.C. in the winter of 2016 by chefs and collaborators Nick Wiseman and Ronen Tenne. The duo met as cooks on the fine dining circuit in NYC nearly ten years before.
Well first it tastes the best. Duh. Second, we’re building the first-to-market regenerative supply chain. Why?! There's a lot of science that says it's better for you. And we believe good agriculture is one of our best tools in the fight against climate change.
We use American organic chickpeas which are regeneratively grown exclusively for Little Sesame by farmer Casey Bailey on his 5,000 acre family farm under the big sky in Montana. We started working with Casey day one, and you could say he kinda inspired this whole thing.
Well, it’s kind of hard to distill to a couple sentences. We could talk about complex crop rotations but we might lose you. So to sum it up, it’s a way of farming that actually improves the land, water and animal habitat. It’s really focused on building healthy soil as the foundation of a healthy ecosystem.
It's freshly spun in small batches in our own facility located just outside of Washington, D.C. Did you know most brands on the shelf use co-packers, big manufacturers that make tons of products. Not us, we've made every batch of hummus since day one.
Yep! For a little dose of nostalgia, plus we like that you can see what we make. We also think it’s pretty cool you get fun textures that play against the smooth hummus and you can incorporate them to your liking as you go. We put a lot of love into our flavors, and hope you love them too.
Ninety days if the container remains refrigerated unopened. Once opened we recommend enjoying it within 7 days, but no judgement if you eat a whole container in one seating.
Nope! No preservatives, fillers, gums or any other ingredients you can't pronounce. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is our ONLY preservative.
Our product undergoes high pressure processing (HPP), which is a very effective method to pasteurize food with pressure instead of the application of heat.
Well, we don't think so. Research shows that as long as it’s never heated it does not pose any health risks. And we NEVER heat it. Not during extraction (ours is expeller pressed) nor when we make the hummus. It’s non-GMO (and organic in a lot of our SKUs).
Little Sesame does contain sesame (tahini) which is labeled as an ingredient on our packaging. Our hummus does not contain eggs, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, crustacean/shellfish, fish, soy, or wheat.
Our hummus is naturally gluten free, but our chickpeas are processed in a facility which processes gluten and we make it in a kitchen that is not certified gluten-free so cross contamination may occur.
