Huge news this Earth Day!
The USDA has awarded Little Sesame $2.2M to help build the organic market in the U.S. by continuing to create direct markets for chickpea farmers in Montana and across the Great Plains.
Farming this way
- Builds healthy soil (which is rapidly depleting across the US), the foundation of healthy land,
- Supports resilient & diverse ecosystems (species are lost every year to intensive commodity farming),
- Sequesters carbon in the soil (climate change is the biggest existential threat to our generation),
- Invests in American farmers and rural communities (young farmers are leaving their families farms in mass),
- Preserves more land in agriculture (conserving land from rapid over development),
- Delivers healthy food to consumers (as chronic disease from the SAD diet plagues our communities).
This is why it matters. And this is why the USDA gave us this grant to keep building. Every container of our hummus is an investment into our collective future.
Special thanks to Andrea Strong and Fast Company for sharing the story.
